LZH

LZH Compressed File

The LZH file format uses algorithm-based compression based on the pioneer Lempel-Zip-Huffman, hence the name. The file format was created by a Japanese LHA archiver named Haruyasu Yoshizaki in the year 1988. The file format's name has undergone several renames, from LHarc to LH and then finally to LHA and the current name of the file format. Being created by a Japanese archive-format maker, the file format is widely used in Japan compared to other Western Countries where the LZH file format is not popular.

RAR

WinRAR Compressed Archive

The .rar filename extension is a popular and partially open archive file format associated with the compression and decompression tool WinRAR. The format was developed by Eugene Roshal with its initial release in 1993. It, like many other archive formats, acts as the compressed data container for one or several files. The archive format can maintain the directory structure of the compressed archive even when unpacked to a directory. The RAR file format supports multi volume file compression where an archive is saved as a sequence of several files of a given size.

Trusted conversion quality

FreeFileConvert uses tuned encoding for LZH to RAR conversions, preserving clarity while trimming file size. Finished audio streams instantly across phones, tablets, desktops, and modern browsers without extra tweaks.

Seamless workflow

Upload LZH files from desktop, tablet, or cloud storage, queue multiple jobs, and let the converter finish autonomously. Return whenever convenient to download synchronized RAR results on any device you rely on.

The LZH file format saves the outcome of files that uses the Lempel-Ziv and Haruyasu (LZH) algorithm for compression. This file format has mostly replaced its predecessor, the LHA format. In its early years, the LHA file format was still supported by Western computer software, however, when the LZH file format was introduced, most computers adapted the new file format, hence replacing the LHA file format completely. The LZH file format uses dynamic Huffman coding.

The RAR archive format supports compression, file spanning, and error recovery. Compression is carried out using a prediction by partial matching algorithm and the lossless compression algorithm LZSS. The RAR file format has a range in file size from as low as 20 bytes to 8 exbibytes less 1. It also supports AES encryption at 256bits as well as the CRC32 checksum and BLAKE2 file hash algortihms.
