ARJ Compressed File Archive

A .arj extension file is a file that is compressed using the ARJ archiver. The program was developed by Robert K. Jung and hence the extension .arj stands for Archived by Robert Jung. ARJ was initially developed in 1990 for DOS and for the earlier versions of Windows. It was a very popular format for compression in the early days because it was very efficient at file compression. It was highly popular at the time of early networks. It is fast, reliable and helps to save on disk space.
TGZ

Gzipped Tar File

The .gz filename extension refers to the GZIP file format and compression/decompression utility of the same name which was initially released in 1992. It is the extension given to files compressed using the gzip utility. Unlike other compression tools of the time, gzip was originally intended to be used as a tool to compress a single file as opposed to multiple files or entire directories compressed as a single archive. As a work around, multiple files can be archived using the TAR archive file format, then that single TAR archive would then be compressed using the GZIP format. This would give the file a filename extension of .tar.gz.

How to convert ARJ to TGZ

STEP 1

Select the archive file in the ARJ format to convert to the TGZ format, you can select a file from your computer or your Google Drive or Dropbox account.                            

STEP 2
