The 3GP file format and its associated filename extension .3gp is an audio, video, and text container developed by the 3rd generation partnership project. The target market for the 3gp file format is 3G enabled UMTS mobile phones through associated UMTS multimedia services. Though mobile devices operating on high speed networks are the intended hardware associated with playing .3gp files, many PC codec packs exist which grant compatibility for .3gp playback. The format has a basic profile in which files of this format do not reference any external media sources and support for audio, video, and text is limited to a single track.
M4V is a file format developed by Apple for the iTunes store's content and is very similar to the MP4 file extension. M4V is supported exclusively by Apple devices. Other video formats like MP4 and MOV can be converted to M4V in order to run on Apple devices. The most common difference between the M4V and MP4 formats is that M4V offers DRM-Copyright Protection which prevents the copyright of media content. To play a DRM-protected M4V file the computer needs authorization by opening the iTunes account used for buying the media file. However, if the files are not protected by DRM, the user can just rename the file extension from M4V to MP4 in order for it to be recognized by non-apple devices.
FreeFileConvert uses tuned encoding for 3GP to M4V conversions, preserving clarity while trimming file size. Finished audio streams instantly across phones, tablets, desktops, and modern browsers without extra tweaks.
Upload 3GP files from desktop, tablet, or cloud storage, queue multiple jobs, and let the converter finish autonomously. Return whenever convenient to download synchronized M4V results on any device you rely on.
Process up to 5 files sized 1000 MB per batch without splitting queues manually. Mixed-format uploads convert together, producing consistent M4V audio with dependable progress tracking.
The 3gp format is standardized in the ETSI technical specification in which support for it is implied in IMS, MMS, PSS, and MBMS carrier services. The format is based upon the ISO/IEC 14496-12-MPEG-4 part 12 standard. As such, video streams in the 3gp format can be encoded in mpeg-4 part 2 or mpeg-4 part 10. Audio streams can be encoded in AMR- narrow band, AMR-wide band, AAC-LC and others.
The M4V makes use of both the H.264 and MPEG-4 video codecs. It is similar to the MP4 file format and its structure is based on the QuickTime media file format. M4V files use M4V extension similar to how extensions are used in MP4 file formats. The audio encoding in M4V is also the same as MP4 files and features lossless encoding, scalable lossless coding, MP3, MP2, MP1, CELP, HVXC, TWINVQ, TTSI (Text to Speech Interface) and SAOL (Structured Audio Orchestra Language).
