The ppt format uses Microsoft's OLE 2 compound document file format. It contains a hierarchical structure of storage and streams broken down to a user stream, PowerPoint document stream, pictures stream, an optional stream, and custom XML data stream. The odp file format was extended from an XML based file format for presentations.
