| Technical Details | AU files contain a header block which has a minimum size of 24 bytes, an annotation block which is optional, and a data block containing the sampled audio stored in big-endian byte order where the most significant byte is stored in the smallest memory address available. Encoding has largely remained in the original mu-law format although AU files supports a multitude of encoding formats. Supported channels for AU files is mono for single channel and stereo for double channel. Although more channels can theoretically be used with the format not all players will support more than the standard two channel configuration. |
